My understanding is that the athlon kernel variant is limited to 4G even for the SMP build.
Okay. thanks. But is there something like bigsmp version for athlon? We are planning to add 8GB more RAM (making it to a total of 16GB) to this machine.
To check exactly what kernel you have : rpm -qa --queryformat="%{NAME} %{VERSION} %{ARCH}\n" kernel\*
It returns: kernel-smp 2.4.21 athlon kernel-utils 2.4 i386 kernel 2.4.21 athlon kernel-pcmcia-cs 3.1.31 i386 kernel 2.4.21 athlon kernel-doc 2.4.21 i386 kernel-source 2.4.21 i386 kernel-smp 2.4.21 athlon
To be able to utilise more, install the i686 kernel. The i686 kernel may have a slight preformance hit running on th athlon CPU.
Any estimate how much this penalty be. -- Nilesh Bansal. http://queens.db.toronto.edu/~nilesh/ -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:redhat-list-request@xxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
