This is a reverse lookup for MIT. It should also come back within a
second or two at most.
If this works then it isn't likely a DNS issue.

[marty@BANYAN ~]$ host 18.7.22.69
69.22.7.18.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer WEB.MIT.EDU.
[marty@BANYAN ~]$
Happened well within a second. FWIW this box is my LAN gateway.
