Your gateway is not necessarily the same as your proxy server; in fact, quite commonly they are not the same. Check with your network administrator to make sure that you have your IP address, netmask, gateway IP address, and DNS server IP addresses correct. Then, if you cannot access the Internet, post here with a *lot* more detail than you did in this question. Include the contents of /etc/sysconfig/network, /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 (and others as necessary), /etc/resolv.conf, the output of "route -n", etc.
