I have a Dell Optiplex GX 270 and RHEL AS 2.1 installed.

It's not recognizing the ethernet card which is integrated into

when I type ifconfig it does not show eth0, only lo.

Try "ifconfig -a" to show all interfaces. Also read the file /etc/sysconfig/hwconf to see whether the card has been detected. I _think_ the driver for that card is the e1000 module, so check the output of the "lsmod" command to see what kernel modules are listed. Finally, if the card is nowhere to be seen, try "modprobe e1000" and see if that enables the card. (You will, of course, have to set up networking as well in /etc/sysconfig/network and /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0).
