I couldnt find anything in the smb.conf file that said "security =", all I found was this: # Use password server option only with security = server # The argument list may include: # password server = My_PDC_Name [My_BDC_Name] [My_Next_BDC_Name] # or to auto-locate the domain controller/s # password server = * ; password server = <NT-Server-Name> -------------------------[ Share Definition: ]-------------------------------- [www] comment = WWW Test Server path = /var/www/ writeable = yes I can get it to work if I set the permissions on the www to allow access to the user. But I dont understand what the point of having that check box is if all you have to do is set the file permissions via the file system. It seems to be that you would be able to set the permissions via SMB seperate of any file system permissions. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rigler, Steve" <SRigler@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <redhat-list@xxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, January 08, 2004 12:39 PM Subject: RE: Samba File Sharing permissions problem > A little more info would help. > > Some information from your smb.conf: > 1. what does the "security = " line say > 2. what does the definition of your share look like > > Aside from that, who is the owner of /var/www and what > are the full permissions on that directory and its > contents. > > -- > S C Rigler > RHCE #803003335409754 > > > -----Original Message----- > From: redhat-list-admin@xxxxxxxxxx [mailto:redhat-list-admin@xxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Donald Tyler > Sent: Thursday, January 08, 2004 11:26 AM > To: redhat-list@xxxxxxxxxx > Subject: Samba File Sharing permissions problem > > > Hi, > > Sorry if this has been asked recently, but I dont have access to my archives at the moment. > > I just set up a Samba file share of the \var\www directory and I am not able to create or edit its contents from a windows machine even though I set the permissions to Read/Write. > > I can however create and edit files in my home directory from the windows machine. > > I would have thought that the file system permissions were not relevant when using the Samba file sharing, or else what would be the point of the Read/Write check box when settings up a file share? > > Anyone have any ideas what I am doing wrong? > > Thanks > > Donald Tyler > > > -- > redhat-list mailing list > unsubscribe mailto:redhat-list-request@xxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe > https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list > -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:redhat-list-request@xxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
