OK...so I've looked through with more depth here and I think it was a
combination of things that got it going. In the process of trying to
install the new sasl2 libs, I found I hadn't installed a c-compiler--you
know, that stuff that comes in under the "Development" stuff in
installation. So, I installed all the various development packages. In
that process, the cyrus-sasl-devel package was installed. This added some
libs to the usr/lib/sasl and usr/lib/sasl2 dirs that weren't there before.
Namely:
libanonymous.a
libanonymous.la
libanonymous.so.2
liblogin.a
liblogin.la
liblogin.so.2.0.15
libplain.a
libplain.so.2
libplain.so.2.0.15
libsasldb.a
libsasldb.so.2.0.15

Also, in installing the 2.1.17 libs, I put an ln in /usr/lib/sasl2 to
/usr/local/lib/sasl2. This has all the later libs in it. So, between the
devel package and the updated libs, everything needed was installed and I
stopped getting "unknown password verifier" in the logs. I think one of the
libs installed--though I must be honest, I'm not sure which one--helped out.
I'm thinking it's one of the login or plain libs since that is what most of
the clients use. But the updated sasl2 libs included EVERYTHING, so that
might have done it too.

I'll do my best! I've already helped a few people on taroon-list get
sendmail going, so hopefully my linux-karma is growing more good.

THANKS!
Corey
