I haven't tried it on any redhat machines yet, and haven't tried it on a large windows server-type arcihtecture. Those not familiar, "chpw" is a free utility out there chpw which basically amounts to a "single-user" mode off of a floppy or cdrom. It was originally written to recover forgotten windows passwords. You put the floppy/cd in and boot off of it. I believe it's a small redhat kernel with lots of drivers for various hard drives and cdroms. After boot up from floppy you can mount your hard drive and do whatever you need to do. I used it a year ago or so to successfully recover lost windows passwords and I don't see why it wouldn't work as a single user boot up for redhat. :) Hmm.. something to test out later when there's more time.
