But, what do you see? >From what I can tell you have your system to startup at level 3. That is your /etc/inittab has the following line. id:3:initdefault: This is giving you a non-GUI login prompt. You then login as a user and at the prompt type "startx". The screen may flash, a "X" appears in the center of the screen for a moment or two, and then you see an image appear that tells you the window manager is starting up....and you are then in your X environment. You then logout of your X session by clicking on the "Red Hat" and clicking on the logout selection. This brings you back to the command line prompt and you logout again from there. You now are back at the system login prompt.
