FWIW I got this problem sorted out, but I'm not sure if it was
anything I did. I added the freshrpms apt repository to the dag,
atrpms, and newrpms repositories I was using and ran apt-get update
again. This time apt-get dist-upgrade ran with no trouble and I was
able to install glib-devel and gdk-pixbuf-gnome and all the other
programs that depended on them.
