I just recompiled a new kernel, from 2.4.18-14 -> 2.4.23.
I copied the old config from
/boot/config-2.4.18-14 to /usr/src/linux-2.4.23/.config

the did
make mrproper
make menuconfig (I read that this must be done on RH)
make clean
make dep
make bzImage
make modules
make modules_install
make install

It all built great, but when I reboot it doesn't recongise the ethernet
cards any more

before with old kernel
