When run as part of the uw imap server, each pop connection is a
separate process - the "server" in this case is inetd/xinetd, which in
turns forks off the individual server tasks.

It won't do anything.  Since connection is new, but you may need to kill
off any outstanding sessions manually.  Look for all the ipop3d
processes and manually terminate them.
