Just a quick note for anyone using the SMTP-AUTH-HOWTO: At step 5, Rodolfo tells you to remove the "dnl" from the beginning of a DAEMON_OPTIONS line. This is incorrect. Removing the "dnl" restricts access to the server, so that only the loopback address can be used to send mail. The purpose of the document was to set up a publicly accessible server, so this obviously wont work. I just figured this out myself. I am a complete noob, so correct me if this is wrong. I will post any other stuff I notice as I go through the guide. Donald -----Original Message----- From: redhat-list-admin@xxxxxxxxxx [mailto:redhat-list-admin@xxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Rodolfo J. On the run right now, but look at: http://www.simpaticus.com/linux/sendmail-smtp-auth-howto.html It will show you how to accept outside (network) connections to your sendmail, so you can send, receive, and relay with it (making it a useful Internet server), while at the same time activating SMTP AUTH to prevent spammers from abusing your system. It is not yet a complete "10-Minute Mail Server HOWTO" but it is getting there. Post again to the list if there is anything in there you don't understand or can't do. -- Rodolfo J.
