Are your firewalls dropping packets, or rejecting them? If you're silently dropping them, you won't get as good of error messages at the client.

How do I check this? The behavior would seem to me (just a feeling) like I am getting only one-way traffic in this case. Client is making mount requests, but the answers are being stopped -- or perhaps the client requests are being screened inbound...

I just don't know enough right now to know how to check this.
