What doesn "showmount -e" display? Are the machines listed in each other's /etc/hosts files?
Is there some trick to this that I am missing? Are there some tools I can use to track down what might be wrong?
Are your firewalls dropping packets, or rejecting them? If you're silently dropping them, you won't get as good of error messages at the client.
