I noticed the reply didn't go to the group so sending again:

Customer tried x64 kernel version (executable still x86 version).
That had the older mdadm 3.4 on it.  The output he gave was:
mdadm:  imsm capabilities not found for controller:
/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:17.0 (type SATA)

Now I have a question, if mdadm is reading from UEFI, is it needing
the efivarfs mounted?  because it's not mounted by defau
