Linux RAID bug?

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

System - Linux-Mandrake 8.2, kernel 2.4.18.
Hardware: Asus A7V motherboard, 2 x Promise Ultra100 TX2 controllers, 8
Matrox 120 GB drives, 1 60 GB Matrox drive.

If I try to create a single RAID5 array using all 8 120 GB drives, some 800
GB effective, shortly after starting that md the system locks completely.
It doesn't appear to do so with up to 6 devices (I'll be doing more testing
to find out exactly when it dies, but it's a long process of recovering the
system each time).

It doesn't appear to be a hardware problem since I've just created an LVM
using all 8 drives and it works fine. Creating the same with linear or 0
modes is also fine.

Has anybody see this before? Is there a known size limit (couldn't see one
anywhere) or do I just need to wait a couple of hours for it to rebuild :-)
Anything else I should be doing? I'm not a code hacker sadly...

Note that I'm not on the list (too much email as it is) so if you need more
info from me then please email me directly. I'll be keeping an eye on the
list archives when I can.

Thanks.
