Honestly - acronyms, for the most part, are whatever you prefer. Gooey vs GUI - Most people know either way. Where I used to work it is interchangeable. Some make more sense like wiz-e-wig for WYSIWYG. "Etsy" for /etc doesn't in my book. Its all preference. Just get names pronounced correctly. When someone calls Linux 'Lynux' it reflects poorly.
