Hi,

I enjoyed this week images and here are my few upsetting words…  J

Jim Snarski – Splashdown – The thumbnail promised good image of a bird with open wings and its reflection.
I appreciate catching the moment in this image but the final product seem to be very grainy.

I understand that there are technical difficulties like low light with high speed that demand high ISO.
It could be interesting to see the exposure details not only the camera and lens.

Rob Talbot – Coffe and Spud – Every time I learn something new from Rob.  This time it was an additional word for a potato J.

This image is an exercise of geometry, composition and light.

Overall I like the image.

I like the idea and I can see in my imagination Rob is trying several , if not hundreds, of combinations for creating the image.

I"ll try to dismantle some of the components here.  First the box: We see 3 sides everyone with other texture or maybe color, this is great.

Also great how the corner line come out strictly from the corner of the frame. I'm not so pleased with the rear horizontal edge which is not horizontal and so is the rear vertical.

Placement of objects (viz. glass and spud): Location and direction of the glass and handle seem perfect. I think I would choose putting the spud not in the same line as it create less dynamic feel.

Light: The source is located behind and above the spud but not so high so it create long shadows which are  important components of the composition.

It seems to me difficult to achieve such a low light source  because of the rear wall of the box.

Putting the light there cause the interesting décor of the glass to be in the shade which is less appealing to me.

More of that, I would prefer the glass's shadow to go to the rear box point.  I must say that the spud is lit very well and perfectly exposed.

But, as I said before, Rob, for sure, tried many possibilities and found this one fit his taste. Rob, I hope you cooked the spud before eating… J

I confused your mind enough.

Roy H. Miller - Twin Towers on Manhattan Island in early 1980s. – An early morning aerial photograph of Manhattan in the eighties.

Although 9/11 was a very significant event in the history of this city and prominent in its skyline pictures, I assume more changes occurred from that time.

Can you tell us about the flight from which this image was taken ?

Jeff Howard – Condominium nature style. – Wasn't it more interesting if we could see at least one of the tenants ?

Lew Schwartz – Indian Neck – I must admit that the wording around this image caught my eyes more than the image itself.
First, the name, I went to Google and found out that there are three places in US with this name. I do not know which one relates to this image and what happened there to the neck of the Indian ?  ( What comes to my mind not feel good).

Second, On the image page I read: " You can see more of her photography at his web site at:…" Are you a transgender ? changed your gender in the middle of the sentence J ?

Third, the image itself: I do not find any interest in this image. Maybe the reason is because I am not familiar with this Indian…?

Andrew Davidhazy – Coils and Spirals – A graphic image with some texture.  At first I saw big metal rings but then came the letters which spread along some rings and teach me thatthis is a continues material. Still some kind of enigma.

Marilyn Darlymple – Moon in the clouds

Emily Ferguson – Moonset through winter woods –

Did the two senior mothers of this mailing list coordinate their submittals ?

Two, very nice, moon images in the dark.

Marilyn said "…  lucky shooting-from-the-hip shot" It is better for you to fill Lotto…  how, for hell, the moon came in the frame of a very long focal length lens without aiming ? and it is so sharp with all the mystic texture around it.

Emily, are you sure this is a moonset and not a moonrise?  I like a lot the plant's silhouettes in the fore ground which make this image a real art.

The big white letters on the bottom quite distracting. Consider smaller grey letters if at all, please.
