Terrorists had taken over the ferry and were demanding that CalMac fill it with gas, and get it ready to take them and their fellow terrorist friends to Cuba for a mid-summer vacation. Abu Nidal pointed out that even terrorists need a vacation. So after the ship disembarked all the hostages and vehicles to lessen the weight and make it easier to get airborne, the ship pulled out of the harbor and went out to sea to gather speed. Many photographers lined the shores, hoping to catch a shot of the ferry taking off, which would have indeed been quite a spectacle. In this shot, the ferry is turning around to make another run at takeoff and afaik, the ferry was unable to reach launch velocity even though the best efforts of hundreds of engineers were applied to the task. However, today the ferry has returned to serve the people of Mull, as all the engineers in the world could not figure out why a ferry can’t fly. It seems there are some things which are beyond the reach of engineering.
