Yes and what did Jan say in his critique that didn't follow that until HE was ATTACKED in violation of those rules?

Now at least, hopefully, we're onto the "art" of criticism.

Included in a thesis defense, there are three understandings:
1. The dissertation committee often offers helpful advice to the candidate;
2. The committee never uses degrading terminology such as "moron," "idiot," or anything similar;
3. A member of the committee never justifies a criticism of the thesis by resorting to his/her own list of accomplishments and awards.

In short -- even when there are strong disagreements -- there is a very strong sense of civility in the process.

Umm because defending your work is as much a part of the process as the critique.  Thats why when you get a masters degree andrew they have this processes call, " THE DEFENSE OF YOUR THESIS"    And who said its nasty and unfair?   Its just real.

. . . if you and Jan are such Professionals, you would think that

why are both of you so defensive when someone critiques *your* work?
