I don’t know them. Are they? It’s mostly kids behind who come along and cll us oldsters liars like you’re doing right here with me. Ansel was a good teacher if you stuck your pride in a sock and obeyed his directions. But he wasn’t perfectly nice all the time -- I’m not either as you already know.
I see Ansel as a photographer who was at his best before 1950. He was a great publicist and promoted photography in general to sell his own reputation. I guess nobody you knew ever got promised a box of 55PN, huh? I’m still waiting and somehow I don’t think it’s coming.

Ansel was not a very nice guy to talented photographers coming along. I’m glad you’re happy with sugarcoating his memories, as I am not. The worst part about getting older and still having a good memory is that kids like you come along behind and call us liars. He hated competitors and if you could lift a 4x5, you were a competitor.
The best thing AA ever did for me was to tell me I would never become a photographer.
