The other thing that we westerns do is impose our values into these pictures and make ASSUMPTIONS. That are usually incorrect. How many people have heard of the protest in China over the work hours being cut? We dont' tell that story because westerns only want to hear about how we saved them from working long hours without any understanding of why they might take these jobs and work the long hours (for which they are paid) No money = no house or apartment = NO WIFE. So instead of it taking 2 years to save up it now takes them 3-4 years.

One of my objections to photographers shooting the locals while traveling is that there is a preponderance of smiling faces aimed at the camera while we as viewers do not know if they are smiling because the photographer has just given them $50, promised them a trip to Disneyland, or other inducement to smile. I dislike portfolios of brown-skinned foreigners smiling at the cameras it reeks of everything bad about Yuppies.
