I personally love the idea of the viewfinder.
Often out doors the screen is impossible to see.
Which is why I like the A1300IS
As it's an Xmas gift If I can't find one locally
I can buy one and see what the lag is and if it's
too long send it back long before Xmas.

I've never bought one of those little pocket things, but, to tell
you the truth I think the iPhone is the best suggestion.
Certainly the Canons and Lumices have a very good reputation, and
you can compare things like features and shutter lag at dpreview.
I personally could not live without a viewfinder but I know from
helping other people buy this type of camera that the models that
have one are few and verrrry far between.
Still, the iPhone's camera is quite something to behold, the
capacity to email pix around when on trips is a lot of fun and
there sure are some silly and fun apps to manipulate the pix with
when everything else around you is boring.
