The PhotoForum members' gallery/exhibit space was updated August 18,
2012. Authors with work now on display at:
http://people.rit.edu/andpph/gallery.html include:
Dan Mitchell - To the Lighthouse
An interesting snapshot - especially for the film-grain-like
artifacts in the clouds, and around the edge of the light and the off
center position of the photographer. And the
so-close-that-he's-nearly-there-ness of the figure. The 4/5 crop
cramps the length of the lighthouse building which I think is a shame.
Trevor Cunningham - banzai plant
An interesting pun - do you perhaps mean bonsai? I'm not at all
certain of the purpose of compositing nor does the infrared treatment
draw attention to itself, so I'm not certain of the point of it
either. The anthropomorphic implications of the arm and elbow, as
well as the head of leafy hair make me wish the angle had been just
lower enough for the viewer to see whether a face could be found
underneath all those leaves.
Jim Snarski - Weaver
Actually a spinner. I think the spider is too hot and I wish the
angle on her made her more immediately recognizably spidery. But
this situation is pretty tricky to shoot.
Jan Faul - Lloyds of London, 2008
Many angles and some action with an unclear point of focus and no
recognizable objects that connect to the ordinary daily visual
experience of the common viewer. What is it? And how does it relate
to an insurance and banking company?
Elson T. Elizaga - Leaves on a Wall
Nice crunchy sharpness, a lovely sepia palette, but I'm not finding
myself feeling autumn-ness or a sense of direction from the crop. I
suspect more of that would appear if the rest of the image were
visible.
Bob McCulloch - Abandoned
It seems more likely that the camper on the far R is the abandoned
item here. I think it's because the grass is mowed up to the
building, implying that it is not-yet-abandoned. In any event, I'd
go look for more angles and try to get a lot more unkempt-ness about
the situation if I felt it was truely abandoned.
Pini Vollach - A dessert's pool
Curves, Pini, curves. Both the image adjustment tool and the situation.
Howard Leigh - Armed Police snapped!
An image combining the worst of just about everything in modern
western society - militarism, children being taught to admire
militarism, alcohol front and center. I do not see friendly here, or
ease. I'd at least punch up the contrast - the image is very flat.
