I’d like to offer what I can in getting back in the groove as it were. I just put one of my assistants on the PTC project today, so we’ll see what she turns up. Assistants are a steady fact of life now that I have problems carrying a 15 pound tripod with a 5 pound camera on it. I’m not supposed to carry anything heavier than a football and a tripod is not in the ballpark. Also the fog of anesthesia is slowly lifting, so reasonably soon I may remember what I forgot.

I am not the same person I was 11 years ago, and I don’t think y’all are either.

Somebody made a crack about me being more famous than them, but if that’s true, perhaps you can tell me why I still have no books out? I have the pictures for four or five books sitting here (Bomber Command, Legacies of Battle (Civil War), Le 6 Juin 1944, California & The West, Scotch & Water, and so forth. I even had writers for 4 of them, but an idiot doctor interfered and the writers all split.

Just go into a wheelchair for a year or two or three and pretty much everybody you know splits. My partner of 18 years split, because I could no longer be her tour leader. We travelled a lot. I was across the pond for about 100 days a year, and it wasn’t home. To be honest, I haven’t been to an airport to get on a plane since August 2008, and I can hardly wait to get out there again. I desperately need to shoot. It’s more important than learning how to walk perfectly again. NOw that I’m an old rat, it’s the force which drives me. I have 26,000 rolls of negs in my vault and I’m not done yet. I also have 800 rolls of out of date Reala in the fridge and thus far it tests okay. Reala does not like the freezer from what I’ve heard. My left foot is in a freezer in Georgetown. Visiting hours are Fridays, 2 to 2.15pm.
