This is good advice... sad but true.

I have been harassed and detained by police in New York whilst shooting a rock festival because someone complained that I was shooting pictures of girl's butts.. I asked the young officer if there was a law against photographing girl's butts... he wasn't amused and hauled me and my camera off to his superior. They looked through my images and found no butts but nevertheless instructed me to stop shooting. I said it was an injustice so  they offered to take me to the police station where i could file a report.

I said I'd stop shooting.

This is the world we live in. Humorless and fearful. Big cities like NY and London are the worst.

Galen,

This file is somewhat dated and does not address all your questions but it may be something to peruse. Early on in the life of this list a "travel tips" guide was assembled based on comments gathered here and there but mostly from list members.

If you want to add to this list follow instructions on that page. Note that there are several compilations of possibly interesting material that you can link to from the list's main page which is still located at: http://people.rit.edu/andpph/photoforum.html

I'm planning a trip to London in April and I was wondering if anyone can give me both 1) possible warnings about wandering around London snapping photos of everything I see, and 2) any suggestions on things to photograph outside of the usual (i.e., Buckingham Palace, etc.).
