No the reason I have shot slides is that is what the magazines and books wanted from professionals. Even local magazines like football program covers, alumni monthly magazines, calendars, local slide shows in Bank windows on Sunday after a football games, ads for local clothing chains and books required slides for color.
Even the catalogue companies in NYC shot slides (next door neighbor I grew up with in Westchester County worked for a catalogue producing company in  NYC ).
 
Now a days of course it doesn't matter what you shoot. Everything has to be has to be digitalized.
