I was able to change the program that opens the jpg's (though the file type still reads 5DFly).
The tiny icons now look like picture files once more. Instead of looking for a new photo program,
I'll go back to re-learning my old Adobe Photoshop.
I've just been out of the photo loop for so long that I've forgotten a lot of what I used to know.
Now that my family is on track once more, I'll have time to get back to my photography.

I suspect if I attempt to open it with irfanview
it'll tell me i's a jpeg , incorrectly atributed, and ask me if I want to rename
it.
After that (if this happened to me) I'd do a
search for all files named *.5dfly - i'd 'select all' and batch renname them
*,jpg
