My albums like that, of roughly that age, are quite happy to let go of the
things they were holding.  Have you actually tried with yours?

(I'm sure the adhesive isn't actually rubber cement, as one poster
suggested; everything I've read on the topic says that would have visibly
damaged the photos long before now.)
