For both the Canon and the Nikon, the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 should not be
overlooked, it sounds like.  The reviews I've seen definitely place it
ahead of the new Nikon 50/1.4 AF-S, and it's a lot cheaper than the Canon
50/1.2.

(Me, I'm still using a Nikon 50/1.8 AIS from 1982; I used to have the 58mm
f/1.2 NOCT, but sold that to finance the D700.)
