RE: Monitor advice

Apple displays tend to be a bit saturated – good for designers but not so good for accurate softproofing of images

I tested a range of flat screen motors side by side including lacie, eizo, and apple

The colour  consistency across the screen with varying angle of view as well the accuracy of the softproofing were both effective discriminators and the eizo won hands down although it was slightly more expensive.

I use apple cinema displays. They are lovely. I calibrate with an eye one and the color in my prints is spot on. Some say they're too bright but I haven't found that to be a problem.

My old CRT lacie monitor has packed up...so I'm thinking of buying a flat screen monitor.

Has anyone got any advice about this? At one point people were a bit snobbish about flat screens for editing photographs...colour/contrast accuracy etc...

I haven't got loads of cash for it but equally don't want to buy any old rubbish. What do I need to be aware of? Are things like 'contrast ratio' important?

Any suggestions welcome.

Jonathan.
