As Herschel was quick to point out, The 45mm lens will not have any
"better" dof than the 85mm. All things being equal, f stop used, magnification,
etc., both lenses will yield the same dof. Only the working distance changes,
allowing more room for lighting etc. I think that is why I find myself reaching
for my 35mm pc rather than the 28mm pc lens.
BTW, both have the same max f stop, so that has no bearing on my choice either. The front lens element (glass) is better shaded on my 35mm lens. Perhaps that has biased my choice. Flare with my pc lenses is tricky to deal with because the shift mechanism can involve more than the conventional lens hood is capable of dealing with at times.
