Assuming digital, what is the sensor size of the camera? It may be that the distance gained with a conversion factor will help you make the decision as the 85mm may make your working distance too great.

Just a thought.

and perspective but not DOF. The shorter the focal length the more

seconded  -  wide angles are very versatile in the situation described
