I checked the D300 brochure this time (vs the D90 manual which I checked last time) and indeed some Nikon models do have multiple exposure as James mentioned below)  The D300 brochure stated
 
" Multiple Exposure
Multiple Exposure is a custom shooting
option that allows for imaginative results by
producing a single image within the camera
from up to 10 consecutive exposures .
Colors are reproduced noticeably better
than photographs combined in an imaging
application."
 
Since I don't have a multiple exposure digital camera I am going to see what can be done in Photoshop first. But it is good to know that there are digital multiple exposure cameras out there.

I suspect that the D700 can do this also.

The impression I got is that Nikon's prosumer cameras don't and the
pro series do.
