I tried a couple of Mac apps - Cyberduck, Classic FTP, Filezilla - and ended up having success with the fireFTP plugin for Firefox.  Once I got that installed and configured properly, everything worked fine.  Before that I got failure to connect messages and not authorized to view messages etc.  Now I can just go through Firefox without any problems.

For those having difficulty, simply open your ftp client and copy/paste the following into your host bar:

ftp://vmsftp.rit.edu/pub/ritphoto/thumbnailgalleries/    \...after that, it's just drag and drop.

I use Filezilla as well...I think someone else mentioned that.

Maybe it would be fun if it could be gotten to work.

This is as far as I've gotten.

With Fetch I can get access to the index of the gallery pages but only if I go from the vms page.  Otherwise I get an error message telling me that slashes make it impossible to get to the requested ftp page.  Navigating through the folder hierarchy I can get to the index of the thumbnail pages, and I can download them.  But they will not open in Safari (my browser).  I haven't yet tried to open them in Photoshop.  If they're html they should open in any browser.

With Safari I get an error "of unspecified type" when I attempt to get to the ftp site.

With Firefox I can get to the index page by using the entire ftp url, but I cannot see the contents of the index page despite that, working backwards, it's clear that the index page is a folder with contents.

Any more ideas.  IE on the Mac is now at lest 6 years old and very hobbled.
