Yes, I had my Canon 20d modified by having the IR-blocking filter removed and replaced with clear glass.
The result is a camera that is sensitive to the near-infrared spectrum and is especially apparent with a dark red filter in front as in this picture.

Note: all of the "digital infrared" images posted on the net are "near-infrared" since none of the sensors can technically "see" true infrared
