Roy,

Congratulation for your image.  It is obviously constructed and it is fair practice to do so.  For the fun of it, I went on Virtual Earth 3D and tried to find the location from where the picture was taken.

My best guess is that it was from the 3rd or 4th floor of the most eastern part of the nice appartment building on Gateway Park Dr., facing Western Blvd where it crosses S Dawson St.  The perspectives seems about right.  The picture has been taken with a long telephoto lens, probably 300mm.  I venture that the resulting image was subsequently elongated vertically by a factor of 1.5 on PhotoShop.  Elementaire, my dear Watson...

I have sent you a picture showing the Virtual Earth View against your picture.  It fits pretty well.  I wish I could post it somewhere on the web, but my capabilities on that front are a bit weak  -:)

Best wishes for 2009 and looking forward to more detective story imagery...

Guy

PS.  This was my first encounter with the geography of Raleigh, NC but I am web-friend with a well-known pinhole photographer who lives there.

It is a picture of Raleigh in early 2000 before the constructions started on the new downtown. The title begins means that Raleigh entered 2000 looking like this, not that it caused the 21th century to begin.
