I don't exactly like fights, but I like discussions with knowledgeable people who hold differing positions, and I have a thick skin so it doesn't have to be totally nicy-nice for me to learn from it. Sheer random meanness doesn't do anything for me, certainly, and it will actively drive away lots of people with interesting thoughts to contribute. I've been using mailing lists and other online forums since 1981, including moderating several on Fidonet in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
