Don't have one but they are highly reated.
Here is one review: http://www.bythom.com/18200lens.htm
Note that at the 135-200mm focal length range, the max aperture is f/5.6
Stadium lighting in my experience isn't very bright and to get sharp
action pix under those conditions for ISO 400, I need f/2.8 and
1/1000th shutter speed.
The VR function for this lens won't help at all under these
conditions since the objects will be moving and VR won't fix that.
For portraiture, I think the lens my work nicely. You'll have to
manage you depth of field since the max aperture isn't large but care
in composition and selection of background should take care of that.
The use of a 2X extender with this lens will yield a max aperture of
f/11 = way to slow for any kind of sports photography except bright
sunlight or in the snow.
No information on the Sigma 400.

James

Hi,
I have decided to upgrade to a Nikon D300. I primarily shoot
sports/ news photograhy and need the speed for stadium lighting
without flash. I am considering the Nikon 18-200 mm as the initial
lens. But I also shoot my share of portrait shots. Do you think it
is fast enough. I am also considering a 400 mm sigma for telephoto
and wonder if a list member has any experience or
recommendations with this equipment.
Another thought would be to try a doubler with the 18-200
