Well, I think there's some way of setting up separate catalogs in
Lightroom. I don't precisely remember the terminology but I think it
was catalog. Is there some New Catalog command in the File Menu?
Maybe that would enable you to specify different hard drives, even in
the Firewire chain, for different catalogs?
Your externals are Firewire, right? Firewire 800 would probably be
the best for them, since it's more than twice the speed of USB 2.
