Why do I find this "eye-witness" account less than believable?

An airplane "broke up in the air" and "passengers ran out" when the fuselage hit the ground? How high was that plane when it "broke up?"

[Chris:] It had just taken off from London Airport and stalled. The main spar broke.

A [presumably escaping] passenger takes time to stop and light up a cigarette igniting a fireball that catches the running passengers?

[Chris:] yes

Survivors shot by police thinking they were terrorists? [Must be the ones that got away from the fireball.] Where did the police come from so quickly? Use of lethal force was thought to be necessary for unarmed people running away from a crash site?

[Chris:] There was a terrorist alert and all the police were carrying machine guns – they still do at our airports. The police are very jumpy.

I do hope there is some corroborating evidence, such as a reference to a newspaper article from a reputable source. From where I sit, this account makes NO sense at all.

If this were a true account, it should have made international headlines. (Googling "airline crash survivor shot" didn't turn up anything.)

[Chris:] There was a cover up – I was on my way to work passing under the flight path and the planes crashed in a field opposite some of the survivors got in my car to shelter from the escaping gas. The police panicked and came to my car and shot the occupants I was working for the MOD and had been issued with a flack jacket. I was designing an atom bomb at a place nearby.

Two groups of police opened fire on each other and the small number of survivors from the fireball were shot. People still sitting in the tail of the airliner watched in amazement but they survived. In the cover story the pilot had a heart attack and everybody died in the crash, In fact he was in my car when he was shot, the plane crashed because of catastrophic failure the cover story was invented to protect the British aircraft industry. I think the plane was a VC-10 and had all its engines under the tail.

Still, it is an entertaining yarn. Perhaps the author should consider a writing career with the National Enquirer.

[Chris:] Fact is stranger than fiction.

peace,

It reminds me of an air crash I witnessed. The plane broke up in the air and when the fuselage hit the ground it burst open, passengers ran out but were caught in a fireball as the escaping fuel ignited when a passenger lit a cigarette. The survivors were shot by the police who thought they were terrorists.
