This made me think about an assignment I made this week. A client asked
me to make pictures of several models. The pictures will be used for
posters. Should I make a model release form for the models? If not, what
kind of contract should I make between me and my client? Who owns the
photos?
I shoot RAW and always give jpg copies to the client, printable at 5x7
inches at 300 ppi. I keep the RAW files. When the client asks for design
and printing of posters, these files come in handy. Is this practice
healthy for both client and photographer?

To whom it may concern
I have given my client my permission to use any and/or all of the
images of their choosing to produce as they see fit for any size 4x6
and smaller and for emailing purposes.
I attest that I am the creator and owner of these images. Therefore I
am giving my client and you permission to reproduce these images
without being in violation of Federal Copyright Laws.
My client clearly understands that there will be a “very noticeable”
quality difference between the photographs we produce at our studio
and the photographs reproduced by your printing. It will be my
client’s excepted responsibility for understanding this and not the
fault of you, the processor.
Should there be any questions regarding this you can contact me at

Hi all,
I recently did some head shots for a friend and now she needs a
letter to get the local W--mart to print the images. Can someone
point me to a sample of what it should say? Thanks,
