ooops something spooky (or extraordinary simple) must be happening! You portray the matter as simple and indeed all your conditions do apply in my system, so as far as I can know of there is no real reason why I obviate from the norm...

I load aRGB in my photos, I convert to sRGB something (there is a numerical code that I cannot remember) and I always open the levels dialog box to see what I can adjuct so this is not an issue. Also my default color space is set to aRGB. In B&W I use a dotgain 2.2 profile and when these are convert to sRGB too there is a shift in blacks too.

My monitor displays colors in sRGB and I have profiled/adjusted it with the Adobe Gamma and when the printer is reliable I am close to 100%

But I always have a shift like this when converting from aRGB to sRGB. (Mode > Assign profile > choose from profile > sRGB profile)

Any guesses?

well In my case I have a major shift in blacks and reds when I convert in PS. The are lighter and less saturated. Greens suffer less.
You should have no shift in the black. Are you suing black point compensation in your conversion ? There is no red that is in gamut in aSRG that is not also in gamut in sRGB. Now there might be a translational error due to the color engine you are using where the number ( each color has a number) is not put into the sRGB space at the correct location.

I suggest
(1) try just assigning the sRGB profile to your file and see how it prints

(2) convert the aRGB into LAB space first and then convert into sRGB and see how it prints

(3) is your monitor profiled?

(4) is your histogram covering the full ( or almost) length of the horizontal axis (~0-10 to ~245-255?
