Has ANY member of this forum set up this arrangement?
I have been "given" an i-MAC with OS 10.4 to teach Photoshop CS3
I have tried to install an Epson 1290 printer.
The OS recognised the printer and set up a BASIC printer driver.
However...
there appears NO way in which I can load any sort of advanced
driver so that I can select color controls off, glossy paper, dpi etc.
When I click on page setup - printer setup in the CS3 print
routine, all I can do is select the paper size....
I've got printer drivers from Epson UK but they don't do anything
else either.
The US site allowed me to download drivers for the 1280 which is
identical but I bet they won't talk to each other!
So I thought, let's try a Canon i6500. Downloaded the MAC drivers etc.
Same problem. I only get the very basic stuff. I cannot select
paper, resolutio, set colour controls to neutral etc.
Any thoughts out these on the forum?
Both printers work perfectly in Windows XP....

Possibly I´m reiterating obvious things, but...
Have you gone through these 3 steps?
1) Installed the proper printer driver (from Epson UK or, my personal
favourite, Epson Australia; Epson US is hopeless with those "US only"
designations of identical printers sold in the civilized world).
2) With the printer powered-up and conneted, opened the Printer Setup
Utility (in Applications/Utilities) and clicked the "Add printer" in
the top toolbar, and selected the printer in the ensuing dialogue (DON
´t select any GIMP Print option).
3) Just to be on the safe side, powered off and disconnected the
printer, rebooted the iMac, powered up and reconnected the printer (3
should not be needed, really, but the procedure has solved problems
several times for me).
Now, you SHOULD be able to select the printer in the print
dialogue, and get all the options the printer supports.
It has to be said that the Mac drivers from Epson have been just
terrible in the past (my new 3800 is a distinct improvement), so
tears, gnashing teeth, sulphuric expletives & c are just par for the
course.
