 Kurt Vonnegut expressed my feelings about this when he said:

"When the last living thing
has died on account of us,
how poetical it would be
if Earth could say,
in a voice floating up from the floor of the Grand Canyon
[or the limbs of trees],
'It is done.'
People did not like it here.'"

I think the trees are pleading for the survival of the Earth.

I guess you have to see the photograph that accompanies this quotation in order to understand it completely.

The photograph shows a "single tree," with branches looking like arms reaching for the heavens.  My take on it is that no matter what or how much time passes, trees have their branches, with the winds whispering through the leaves, reaching toward heaven.  The trees can never be silenced.

But then, I'm a romantic {:->
