I guess you have to see the photograph that accompanies this quotation in order to understand it completely.
 
The photograph shows a "single tree," with branches looking like arms reaching for the heavens.  My take on it is that no matter what or how much time passes, trees have their branches, with the winds whispering through the leaves, reaching toward heaven.  The trees can never be silenced.
