Double RANT! PICLI.COM

Hello one and all,

I get a newsletter every day from the Kim Komando show, and recently they touted PICLI.COM as their featured site of the day. I went to the site, since it's a photo site, and to my surprise, found that they were encouraging people to post images that they nor the reader posting the image owned the copyright to. I sent the PICLI.COM staff a note, asking why it is that they allow work from professional photographers to be posted that they nor the poster owns the copyright to? This is the response I got:

We have a source feature where users can quote where they found their content, if that artist then comes forward and tells us they don't want their work on picli we will be quick to remove it.

So, basically, they're saying that they're going to post copyrighted material and the only way they'll remove it is if the photographer complains. I personally hope these guys get their backsides sued off regularly and often. I also got another e-mail from them saying "We're just two 20 year old guys in London..."  I wrote them back and said two guys, or a mega media corporation, doesn't really matter... stealing is stealing and you're denying that photographer the legitimate claim to the money they've earned by posting that image, you're stealing from them.

Please tell all of your photo-friends about these guys and their sorry ways. It's one thing to post your own work and not get paid for it, but give the pro shooters the choice, or pay for the use. It's only fair.

Cordially,

Mark Lent
