Let me simplify I might give a student a bad grade for an image and he might say to me "That shot took me 4 hours to light and i had to climb up two stories of scaffolding to get the perspective etc...." That does bot change the image's impact at all. Most people don't see any more than that Tell a client that it will take 2 days to shoot and have another studio quote for half a day and see who gets the job. presuming equal talent.
