Herschel mentioned Adobe's beta version of Lightroom a couple weeks ago and since then I've downloaded the newest version, watched all the on-line tutorial videos I could find and I've given the program a hard workout the past several days and all I can say is that I am 100% sold on it.

If you've not messed with it, I strongly urge you to give it a try. It is amazing and from the sounds of things, this type of processing is the wave of the future for raw image editing.

I strongly second Lea´s suggestion.  Up to Beta 3, I couldn´t see myself really using it, but Beta 4 made me a convert.  Now it is my main tool.

Just image being able to put the mouse pointer somewhere in your image, let it rest there, and then use the up or down arrows to make that part of the tone curve lighter or darker....  And all the time see the image before and after, side by side (if you want too).

There are bugs and nuisances, for sure, and you´d better think through how you want to organize your library, but it´s worth it.

I suppose Aperture would be OK too, but there is no way of testing it before paying for it.  Also I´d have to upgrade my PowerMac G5 to even install Aperture; Lightroom runs well and reasonably fast on what I have.

Try it!  (Remember: after all, it´s still beta.  Back up every original before letting Lightroom handle them, just to be safe...)
