The problem with after market lenses is their repairs. Most of the manufacturers don't keep parts available after a few years. I have a perfectly good Tokina Zoom that is loose in the focusing barrel. It can't be repaired because there are no parts available. It the 400 you are talking about is old (and at that price I would suspect it age is considerable) then chances are, it will work fine until something goes wrong, then you may find out the lens can not be fixed.
 
Call your local repair shop and ask them if they can fix that lens.
